The risks of travel hit home with the events at White Island, New Zealand

My heart naturally goes out to those involved, their families and the emergency service and medical personnel who are dealing with this horrific event where up to 11 Australian’s along with other nationalities may have lost their lives.

Australian’s love to travel and per head of population we are up there as the most travelled.

While the events in New Zealand are terrible it must be remembered that in total 3,354 Aussies were injured or killed while overseas last year, meaning every day nine travellers either lost their life or made a trip to the hospital.

I for one love to travel and if I was aboard the cruise liner I would have put my hand up for the excursion to White Island. I have a real fascination for volcanoes. Clearly I am not alone.

Events such as this are big news but I am sure it will not keep us from travelling and exploring this remarkable world we life on.

However, we should not ignore risk nor the need for good quality travel insurance. If you are planning the trip of a lifetime, please see your general insurance broker and arrange the right travel insurance program for you.

If you travel for business, then Corporate Travel may be the way to go. Most of these policies allow incidental leisure travel as well and typically have greater coverage and less restrictions on pre-existing conditions.

They are all different though and that is why you need to speak with an insurance expert who has access to services like LMI PolicyComparison.com while everyone has access to LMI ClaimsComparison.com.
