Mansfield Awards – News

As most readers will know, the Mansfield Awards for Claims Excellence is a not for profit event with the proceeds going to assist an orphanage and school for handicapped children in Bengkulu, Sumatra Indonesia.

From our very first visit to the orphanage, sporting goods have been donated. This has continued every year since with a new sporting field being completed this year.

The result is that one of the older children, Agung, represented Bengkulu Province at the Indonesian Paralympic Games held in West Papua (formally  Irian Jaya) last week. Agung was accompanied by one of the orphanage’s carers: Mr. Bintang.

Agung competed in shotput and discus.

We thank Steadfast, icare, and all those that have supported the Mansfield Events which has literally changed the lives of not only Agung but dozens of other severely disadvantaged children. The support allows the children to reach their full potential and achieve things that they only dreamt of.

For those who do not know the background, the orphanage was chosen as it is located very near Fort Marlborough the site of the insurance claim that gave rise to the seminal case of Carter v Boehm where Lord Mansfield set out the principle of utmost good faith in insurance. The awards and the foundation are named in Lord Mansfield’s honour.
