LMI turns 27 today

In a fast-paced world, it’s vital to pause and celebrate the milestones that define us. Today, LMI Group marks its 27th anniversary, tracing our journey back to February 25, 1999.

My deepest thanks go to the entire LMI team. Your dedication to supporting our clients and your tireless work in building the trusted brand we are today have made this achievement possible.

I also thank the brokers, insurers and insureds who have entrusted us with claims and projects often during their time of real need. Many have become long standing friends.

Birthdays are a time of reflection, and I was wondering if this blog and the other writing that I do are of value. The blog in particular is a labour of love which when I get busy tends to get dropped off.

Yesterday I attended a Professional Development Day and was honoured to be on a discussion panel. It is always good to catch up with people you have not seen for a while and others that you have never met. Two helped me with my thought process.

The first was a broker who had worked for 10 years in Vietnam. He had taken my blue book on Business Interruption and Claims with him and when his local colleagues saw the book, they often asked to borrow it. What they did was each time they would take it to a photocopy shop, cut off the spine and photocopy the entire thing. Then try and glue it back to together. You can imagine what it looks like after this has happened a few times. He thought that I may be upset that I had lost some sales. To the contrary, the whole purpose of the book was to help people understand this important and under sold class. It is wonderful to think that the book has helped educate a relatively new insurance market.

Immediately after than conversation, I met another broker who I had never met but she wanted to thank me for my blog articles as they had helped her many times. She specifically mentioned the one I wrote about the impact of hot works exclusions in property, construction risks and liability policies.

Both comments could not have come at a better time and have inspired me to finish the revision I am part way through the “blue book” and to start a new series on the blog from tomorrow.
