LAUNCH OF NEW CYBER SECURITY CAMPAIGN

Cyber attacks in all its forms including scam phone calls, social engineering through to more sophisticated attacks remains one of the greatest risks facing organisations.
This week we see the launch of a new initiative by the telecommunications companies as the Australian Government implement more measures to protect consumers, whether they be individuals or organisations from international scammers.
Also this week the Australian Government has also launched a new cyber security campaign, which will run all year round… because, in their words “cybercrime never stops!”
The campaign warns Australians about cybercrime and promotes cyber.gov.au as the one-stop shop for individuals, businesses and organisations to protect themselves against cyber threats.
Act now, stay secure The new campaign promotes the ACSC as the trusted authority for cyber security advice and assistance in Australia. It warns that cybercriminals never switch off and urges Australians to ‘act now, stay secure’ by accessing the easy-to-follow cyber security advice on cyber.gov.au.
This month’s theme is ransomware, a type of malicious software that makes your computer or its files unusable unless you pay a fee. Anyone can be the victim of a ransomware attack at any time, and we are seeing an increase in ransomware attacks in Australia. Check out our new ransomware guides (https://www.cyber.gov.au/ransomware).
Get social Follow this initiative on Twitter (https://twitter.com/cybergovau) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/cybergovau) for the latest campaign content and practical information to help you improve their cyber security.

Security is not something we can take for granted whether the physical security of our assets or our on line security. While the government and telecommunications companies are to be congratulated on these initiatives we still have to be on our guard and among other things, think before we click on any links or attachments.
I also urge readers to discuss cyber insurance with their insurance broker and consider quality insurance protection in case something does go wrong.
