Good to see that environmental issues received top billing

Environmental concerns get top billing in Infrastructure Australia priority list for first time. This included protecting coastal flooding, boosting recycling and ensuring water security having high priority.

Rising sea levels, water security and waste management are among the environmental challenges that Infrastructure Australia has, for the first time, elevated to the top tier of its priorities list.

Here is a link to the report that was released yesterday, should you be interested.

On the subject of waste, it is interesting to consider how things have changed in just one or two generations. My wife for example, was one of eight children. Their family of ten had one metal rubbish bin that was half the size of a wheelie bin and it served them fine.

Today with all the packaging, more affluent life style, and smaller family sizes –as a generalisation– yet we have the situation that we are being asked to go to four wheelie bins.

The problem for many is that with apartment living, multiple occupancy house lots, often with shared drive and walkways, and or purpose built rubbish bin enclosures, we simply do not have the space to store the bins.

Is this a case of trying to medicate the illness rather than address the root cause? Where will it end?
