Does the colour of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade Helmets signal more take overs?
I noticed that the spokesperson for the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade (“MFB”) was wearing a blue helmet and the thought crossed my mind that the organisation has more on their mind than just taking over sections of the Country Fire Brigade (“CFA”).
Perhaps, the long term aim is for it to become the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Police Force!
I am just joking of course, although the thought did really cross my mind, which is more a reflection on how my mind works and the fall out that the Andrew’s Government has created in the fire services space of late, rather than the sterling work of our fire fighters.
For the record, the blue helmet on an MFB or CFA officer signifies he or she is a Station Officer as per the chart below.

The CFA do not use the blue helmet as a Station Officer they just have the grey helmet and Blue is an instructors helmet instead. Also the red helmet is not used for staff positions with the Commander using the grey helmet also. The red helmet is used for Volunteer Captains with the white helmets being used for Group Officers who are volunteers
Thanks Damien, At the time I wrote this article I double checked the colours with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade. it is disappointing that all brigades in Australia, no make that that globally do not use the same colours for when they help each other at times of natural catastrophes let alone 2 brigade in the same state that often work side by side.
Putting that aside, I do appreciate your taking the time to write. I have a few CFA helmets in my collection but none from the MFB that I can recall.
