Do you or your clients drive a Ford Ranger or Everest?

As regular readers are aware, I post each week a list of the products that have been recalled in Australia.
It staggers me the number of products that are not recalled with people continuing to use. The scariest ones for me are anything involving 240-volt electrical wiring, fittings and or appliances, and the Takata airbags.
Another one has hit the list. This involves some Ford Ranger and Ford Everest vehicles.
Ford Australia has recalled 20,968 examples of the Ranger mid-size ute and Everest large SUV, over a potential issue with their transmissions.
Specifically, their transmission fluid pump gears could fail while driving, which can in turn cause a loss of hydraulic pressure and, therefore, engine power.
If this were to occur, the risk of an accident and injury to vehicle occupants, and other road users would be increased.
While I have no experience with this vehicle, I know how easy it is to bump the gear lever in a Tesla to neutral, and this is a very scary experience when you are driving down a highway in traffic. This, to me, should be subject to a recall and correction as well, but that is a story for a different day and it will probably require a needless death before something is done on this one.
As far as I can gather, the recall applies to 15,924 Ranger utes built from December 19th, 2017, and October 15th, 2019, as well as 5044 Everest SUVs produced between May 30th, 2018 and October 16th, 2018. Both models are mechanically related, but please double check with your Ford dealer if you have either type, to be sure.
The strong message today is, please, if you drive one of these vehicles or know someone that does, have it taken to a Ford dealership for rectification.
