Claims Survey Counts to Mansfield Awards

Claims Survey Counts to Mansfield Awards

As with so many events, the Mansfield Awards for Claims Excellence cannot go ahead in its normal format this year. However, recognition of the industry’s claims teams is as important as ever, following the Hayne Royal Commission, a 230% increase in reported breaches, and a summer of record-breaking natural catastrophes. Claims teams are also confronted with claims arising from the pandemic, in levels not experienced for this type in living memory. We simply could not let an entire year go by without providing this much deserved recognition.

The event which will be run by LMI Media with the support of LMI’s great partner, InsuranceNEWS, will be one to be remembered. There will certainly be more on this as we get closer to the July event, so watch this space.

Your feedback is vital to ensuring the right team wins the Golden Mansfield. Please take a few minutes and complete the survey, and let us know your thoughts, whether good, bad or indifferent.

Why is it so important?

There were three reasons why ClaimsComparison was developed as a free service to the insurance industry and the insuring public.

  1. Insurance is not about price, yet it often purchased on this false criterion alone. Insurance is about protection, it is the coverage afforded by the policy, the financial strength rating of the carrier and the claim service. It is too late after you suffer a claim to find that you have insured with an insurer that lives by the “delay, deny, defend” approach. ClaimsComparison.com is designed to allow consumers to make an informed decision on the claims service they can expect should it happen to them.
  2. To drive positive change. I was staggered at how few insurers survey their customers about their claims experience, the performance of the loss adjuster, the panel builder, etc. If you do not measure, you cannot improve. I was delighted to hear when claims managers rang to jokingly curse me as their company’s ClaimsComparison star rating was now a Key Performance Indicator, on which they would be measured. The introduction of the Mansfield Awards has only helped drive the positive change we all want to see.
  3. To reward and recognise claims teams. Both my children were hockey goal keepers. I watched where they saved goal after goal during a match with little or no recognition, and when a wing scored a fluke goal, they would be carried off the field. I like claims to be like the goalie: doing their best to look after their customers and manage claims leakage. At the time the Mansfield Awards were introduced, there was not a single award recognising their huge contribution to the industry.

To be meaningful and achieve these objectives, the survey needs to be honest and accurate and reflect the current position of claims. It is open to anyone and everyone, but you cannot submit a survey on your own company. It should only be on you as an insured, an agent of the insured such as a broker or Authorised Representative, a supplier or consultant to the industry.

More and more insurers are seeking a report at the end of the survey period, which this year is the 31st May 2020, and particularly wish to see your comments. To make this workable please add the name of the company before your comment.

How we rate?

What I would ask every single reader to do, is to take just a few minutes and complete the survey that will contribute to both those claims teams that make the final, and the ultimate winners of the highly coveted awards. It also sets the star rating from 1/2 to 5 in LMI ClaimsComparison.com for the next six months. I thank you all for your help in this important work.
