Anti burst flexi hoses

With burst flexi hoses being such an issue, particularly in strata and home situations, Steve Manning and I have been researching ways to reduce the risk of damage.

We have tested a number of shut of valves but over the weekend while in at Trade Link Plumbing Supplies I struck up a conversation with the store manager and she introduced me to a new range of anti-burst flexi hoses.

They carry two different versions with the second only arriving at stores last week.

One version has a patented water shut off device which shuts off water supply when water connector leaks at over 9 Litres per minute. They also claim that the superior polymer braiding used on the hose will prevent rust damage.

Both models I saw were suitable for both hot & cold water with an operating temperature up to 90 degrees Celsius for greater heat resistance.

One version had a PEX inner tube with 8mm bore for longer life and improved strength. This one had a 7 year hose warranty from the date of purchase and was WaterMark approved. AS/NZS 3499:2006. WMKA21270.

Another benefit is that the brass fittings are lead free making it safer when drinking the water.

The cost at $7.50 for a 300mm (1 foot) long flexi hose seemed reasonable.

You will see from the photo I took in store that one model even has a wing nut so that it is easier to fit in tight spaces.

Please consider changing out any existing flexi hoses with these new anti-burst ones where the old ones are more than 5 years old and save yourself (and or your strata neighbours) the heartache of coming home to a flooded mess.
