Another tragic quad vehicle accident claims the life of a child

It was only a few weeks ago I was moved to post an article where a young child was killed while a passenger on an quad bike.
Over the weekend, I was speaking with our immediate neighbour and they explained that family friends had lost their young daughter in a quad vehicle accident. This time the vehicle was designed to transport 4 people, and had at the time of the roll over, been carrying 8. In a single heartbeat, what was supposed to be a fun activity, became a tragedy.
The driver has been charged by police but this does not bring back the life of the child.
These vehicles, which can be very useful tools of trade should not be treated as harmless toys. They kill and cause serious injuries far too often. To allow children to operate them, to operate them without all safety equipment or outside the manufacturers guidelines and/or to over load them with people or anything else is a recipe for disaster.
With the one a few weeks ago, the quad bike owner found they had no insurance to protect them from the inevitable claim by the parents of the deceased child. The focus is then on the advice of their broker.
I know some insurers have issued safety data sheets on tractors, quadbikes and other farm equipment and it is certainly a discussion that I would urge brokers to have with their clients. You may just save a life.
