A piece of Insurance History

I find it interesting whenever I see an old insurance sign, fire mark, agency sign or the like of an insurer that I did not know.

With a new development in the CBD of Melbourne, the demolition of one building uncovered a long forgotten sign for the Australasian Catholic Assurance Co Ltd, that offered life, fire and accident insurance – general insurance.
Thinking it was an early name for Catholic Church Insurances I forwarded the photograph to a friend there and he kindly wrote back explaining that the company was in fact a ‘short lived’ competitor to Catholic Church Insurance Limited.
Catholic Church Insurance Limited itself is now entering its 110th year of service, having commenced operations in 1911. Congratulations are certainly in order for this great milestone.
If you come across any insurance signs you do not recognise, please shoot them through and I will endeavor to find out the history of the company. With the generosity of so many people we have put together a great library which includes year books, journals and other publications going back to the late 1800’s with advertisements, articles, reports, etc that provide a wealth of information.
I recently found an ACA policy taken out by myself back in 1964. It is for 500 pounds.
I have forgotten about this for decades.
Can it still be paid out?

Great article! Faith & Mission Insurance plays a crucial role in protecting religious organisations, faith-based groups, and charitable missions from risks such as property damage, liability claims, and volunteer-related incidents. A well-structured policy ensures these communities can focus on their purpose with confidence, knowing their people, property, and outreach efforts are safeguarded. Thanks for highlighting this important area of coverage!
